IRCTC Ticket Booking Through Mobile

A Very Good news to all the Indian railway passengers, that from the 1st July 2013, After PNR Status they will be able to book their Railway reservation Ticket from their mobile phones. The facility will be applicable fro the feature phone to smart phones.

IRCTC efforts for its Passengers
From the last year IRCTC was planing to launch a facility through which all the passengers can book their ticket using the mobile phones, with no need of Internet connection. This Service is related to text messaging. In this direction IRCTC launched two services as :

IRCTC SMS Based Service

In The SMS Based Service User have to send the following details through sms as Train Number, Destination, Journey date, Class (as Sleeper, 1 AC, 2 AC, 3 AC) and Personal Details (Name, Age and Gender). After entering the details Passenger have to send an SMS to with his / her transaction ID and the bank password. In The SMS based Service User have to make payment Via the Mobile wallet. In this system user have to enter his / her MPIN to authenticate the IRCTC to withdraw The amount.

Book Tickets Through USSD / IVR

Passengers Can Book Tickets Through USSD or IVR Service. In the USSD service you have to Dial a particular number and a option menu appears to you. In the Option Menu You have to Select the option of Booking train tickets. After that the menu screen will lead the user to follow the instruction to complete the booking process. The payment can be done using the mobile wallet or airtel money account created by the user using the airtel sim connection. In the booking through IVR system user have to dial a number and have to book tickets by replying to computer that asks to fill the required details.

Note: This Scheme will not work Between 8 Am - 12 Pm for booking ARP / Tatkal / General Tickets.

How it works?
In SMS Based Service, User has to register a mobile number with IRCTC and a bank also. The IRCTC will book the ticket for the passengers and Bank will have responsibility of payment gateway through which payment will be received from thee user. For the purpose IRCTC has enrolled 20 banks for this service, that provide the MMID (Mobile Money Identifier) and OTP (one time password) for authorization of payments by user.

In Menu Based Dialing , user has to dial a designated number and then select the reservation option, and after filling all the reservation details , payment will be done through mobile wallet service. And after the successful payment , a confirmation message will be received at your mobile number.

Note : For this SMS service a dedicated number has been announced by the IRCTC. Currently Airtel train bookin service is available as menu based dialing. Airtel User can dial *400# for receiving menu screen on their mobile phone. SMS Charges will be applicable as 3rs Per SMS And 5rs will be deducted by the payment gateway of rupees less than 5000. These charges will be doubled when Payment money increased more than 5000rs.
